One red bird on a snowy pine branch, the bright spot on a quiet winter morning. This cardinal painting print shows a male northern cardinal, feathers fluffed against the cold, on a bough heavy with fresh snow and red winterberries, in the style of a classical oil painting, printed and framed, ready to hang.
Why it belongs
It belongs in a living room in December, an entryway that needs a little warmth, a cabin, or the reading chair by the window where you watch the feeder. Many people see a cardinal in winter as a sign that a loved one is near, so it is also a quiet gift for someone who is missing a person they love. Winter walls are hard to fill without going full Christmas; a single cardinal in the snow keeps the season and still looks right in March. Browse more bird art prints or our Christmas wall art.

TWO WAYS TO ORDER
Framed and ready to hang, or as an unframed print for a frame you already love. Choose the unframed print in the options and it arrives on its own, made to order on the same paper as our framed pieces, without a frame, plexiglass or hanging hardware. - Solid pine wood frame in Dark Wood, Natural Wood, White or Black
- Shatterproof plexiglass on the front
- Fade-resistant archival-quality inks on 200gsm premium matte paper
- Sizes from 5x7" to 28x40", plus A3, A2 and A1
- Free shipping available
- Certificate of Authenticity: a physical 4x6" insert plus a digital certificate
What you will notice first
- The red against the snow: warm light on the cardinal's chest and cool blue shadows in the snow, so the bird reads clearly from across the room
- The look of oil brushwork: soft painterly strokes in the sky and the snow, finer detail in the feathers and the black mask around the beak
- Winterberries: two clusters of glossy red berries on the branch repeat the red of the bird
- A light, calm sky: cream and grey with snowy pines fading into the distance, easy to live with in any room
- No words on the art: no name, quote or date, just the bird, the branch and the falling snow
How it feels in the room
It is the first grey morning after a snowfall. You come downstairs with your coffee, the house still quiet, and there it is on the wall: one red cardinal on a snowy branch, as bright as the real ones at the feeder outside. The dark wood frame gives it the presence of an old family painting, and the soft matte paper keeps the winter light gentle, with no glare from the window.

FAQs
Is this an original oil painting?
No. It is a new artwork made in the style of a classical oil painting, printed to order on premium matte paper and framed. The print shows the look of brushwork, but the surface is smooth paper behind plexiglass.
What does a cardinal in winter mean?
Many people see a cardinal in winter as a sign that a loved one is near. That meaning makes it a gentle way to remember someone, and it works just as well as simple winter decor. No words are printed on the art.
Is it a good sympathy gift?
It can be a gentle one. There is no message, name or date on it, so it never says too much, and it arrives framed with a Certificate of Authenticity, ready to give. For a gift, 16x20" suits almost any wall.
Which frame color suits it best?
Dark Wood is our pick: the walnut tone frames it like a classic oil painting and echoes the dark pine branch. Natural Wood feels warm and cozy, White lets the snowy sky run to the edge, and Black makes the red stand out.
What size should I choose?
Above a sofa or a fireplace, 24x36" or 28x40" fills the wall. In a bedroom, office or reading nook, 16x20" or 18x24" works well. For an entryway, 11x14". For a gallery wall of birds, 8x10" or 11x14".
Does it arrive ready to hang?
The framed version arrives mounted in a solid pine frame behind shatterproof plexiglass, with hanging hardware already fitted. The unframed print arrives on its own, ready for a frame you already own.
Will the colors fade?
The print uses fade-resistant archival-quality inks on 200gsm premium matte paper. Hung out of direct sunlight, the red of the cardinal and the soft winter colors stay true for years.
How long does delivery take?
Each piece is made to order in one to four days, then shipped from a production facility near you, with tracking on every order. Free shipping available.
