The wall above the bed is the one people leave until last, and it is the one that decides how the room reads. It is wide, it is low, and it is framed by pillows, so the rules that work everywhere else stop working here. This collection is the pieces that suit that wall: calm subjects, warm and neutral palettes, and enough empty ground that the art settles the room instead of crowding it. You will find framed prints and gallery-wrapped canvas here, and both arrive ready to hang.
Why the Wall Over a Headboard Is Its Own Problem
Above bed decor is a size and spacing question before it is a taste question. A small piece floats over a queen headboard and reads as an afterthought. A busy one argues with the bedding you already chose. And anything with a hard, high-contrast pattern is the wrong thing to look at last before the light goes off.
What works is the opposite of what most people reach for. A single restful subject, a horizon or a shape that runs parallel to the top of the bed, and a palette that borrows from the room rather than competing with it. Warm cream, terracotta, sage, oatmeal and soft gold sit with linen, oak, rattan and brass, which is what most bedrooms are already made of.

What Size Goes Above a Bed
The working rule is two thirds of the width of whatever sits below it. Measure the headboard, not the mattress.
- Over a queen, a headboard runs about 62 inches, so aim for 37 to 47 inches of art. One 60x90 cm / 24x36" piece lands in that range.
- Over a king, a headboard runs about 80 inches, so aim for 48 to 60 inches. One 70x100 cm / 28x40" piece is the single-piece answer.
- As a pair, two 40x50 cm / 16x20" prints hung with four to six inches between them cover a queen and read as deliberate. Two 45x60 cm / 18x24" prints do the same over a king.
- On the wall beside the bed, rather than over it, 27x35 cm / 11x14" and 40x50 cm / 16x20" keep the proportions right.
Hang the bottom edge of the piece six to eight inches above the top of the headboard. Higher than that and the piece stops belonging to the bed and starts drifting toward the ceiling.
One Piece or a Pair
Many designs here are a portrait format, taller than they are wide, and others run wide across the wall, which is worth knowing before you measure. A single portrait piece works over a queen at the larger sizes. Over a king, or over a wide low headboard, a matched pair usually reads better than one piece trying to span the whole wall on its own.
The rule for a pair is to change one thing and only one. Same size, same format, two different designs. A uniform finish is what makes two pieces read as a decision rather than as two things that happened to end up on the same wall.
Our Own Designs
Our own designs are printed after you order, on premium matte fine art paper with fade resistant, archival quality inks, and our framed prints sit in solid pine 20 to 25mm deep behind shatterproof plexiglass rather than glass. That last part matters more above a bed than anywhere else in the house. A framed print arrives assembled with the hanging hardware already fitted. Each of our own designs comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, is backed by our 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee and our Lifetime Quality Guarantee, for as long as you own it, and ships with free shipping available. Partner-studio pieces show their own shipping and return window on their product page.
Above Bed Decor Questions
How high should art hang above a bed?
Six to eight inches above the top of the headboard, measured to the bottom edge of the piece. If your ceilings are over nine feet you can go a little higher, but stay under twelve inches or the piece loses its connection to the bed.
What size art goes above a queen bed?
A queen headboard is roughly 62 inches wide, so the art wants to span 37 to 47 inches. One 60x90 cm / 24x36" piece, or a pair of 40x50 cm / 16x20" prints with four to six inches between them.
Is it safe to hang framed art over a bed?
A piece with no glass removes the main worry about hanging art above where someone sleeps. Gallery-wrapped canvas has no front to break, and the framed prints in our own line are described in the Our Own Designs section above. Canvas is also light, so the fixing carries less load. Use a fixing rated for the weight and, on drywall, find the stud.
Should I hang one piece or two above the bed?
Over a queen, one larger piece is the simplest answer. Over a king or a wide low headboard, a matched pair usually balances better. Keep the size and the finish identical across a pair and let the two designs carry the difference.
What colors work above a bed?
Warm neutrals and muted tones. Cream, terracotta, sage, oatmeal and soft gold read as restful and borrow from what a bedroom already contains. High-contrast graphic work is better on a wall you look at during the day.
Do these arrive ready to hang?
Yes. Framed prints and canvas arrive ready to hang, with nothing to assemble. Some pieces come from independent partner studios; each product page shows who makes it, how it ships and its return window.
